Phoenix Running 10 in 10 Series, Day 3 (Dauntless Ring), 29.5 miles, 03.04.2023

Day 3 of 10 days!

Today we ran the west bound route, under Walton Bridge. The weather was cold to start, but bright and sunny, and by the end it was warm with bright sunshine!

After washing my shoe laces free of mud last night, I rethreaded them too tight in a rush this morning, and got sore feet after a few laps. The relief of loosening them was immense!

Continued with the three lap Freddo Strategy, which is a winner.

Lots of chats on the way round today, and I loved the run!

Started off talking with Ollie, about plums. Followed by a conversation with Paul about cakes and desserts, especially crumble (if you are interested, apple and cinnamon is top choice for all of us). In continuation of my TiT 2023 education, I have looked up the origins of crumble as a dessert - it became popular during World War II, when due to rationing, the ingredients for pastry were often in short supply, so a crumble topping was invented as an alternative.

Following on the food theme, we had a "Stephen sandwich" hug, followed by a discussion that although the filling of a sandwich is important, the bread is also key. Particularly say if it is sourdough, or olive bread, or even a bloomer.

Later on, Sarah and I narrowly avoided a bread injury. At the swan spa (which has moved to new premises slightly downstream, due to the original spa being submerged by the high water level), it was lunch time, and a family were feeding the swans by throwing bread to (or at?) them from the other side of the path, and we almost got taken out by a low-flying stale roll.

Dimitri the cockeral didn't make an actual appearance, but he did do a wake up call from his boat (where I imagine he was still in bed) at about 11.00.

On the subject of cocktails that cockerals might have, we settled on Egg Nog,  but then realised that for a chicken, that was probably cannibalism. So chickens probably have just Nog.

This made us think of cocktails, and therefore which flavour salt tablets we would have today. We settled on watermelon. Watermelon cocktails were the next thing I Googled, and a Watermelon Pina Colada looks like a winner, I must say.

Afterwards, we had cake (red velvet - thanks Lorraine for saving us a slice!) and mint tea, sat in the sun outsude The Wier, whilst a Chinook flew overhead!

So another 9 laps, and 29.5 miles, for ultramarathon #3/10. Everything still is feeling fine, which is excellent news for day 3!

The medal today is the Dauntless Ring.
