100 Days of Running Day 61 - a heatwave, getting overcooked, and a new discovery

Overcooked it today! 36.7oC! Did all the things the advice said; ran early, ran slow, drank lots of water, wore sunscreen, shades and technical clothing (draws sweat away from your skin - nice). Was planning on doing a shorter run, but was enjoying it and got carried away and did 11.25 miles. Just before home, whilst listening to Phil Collins get to the loud drumming bit in In The Air Tonight, stopped to cross a road and came over all dizzy and sick. Spent a few hours with stomach cramps and feeling weak (and watching Wimbledon). Am back to normal now. Goes to show though - respect the heat and be careful everyone!

Had an ace run though, up until then. Down to the river and right along the South Bank, over Waterloo Bridge to Westminster, ran down Birdcage Walk and up the Mall (pretending was running the London Marathon), up to the top, and then turned around and all the way back again.

The city is so gorgeous in the sunshine. Felt so happy to be out in the sunshine and seeing the sites. Loads to look at, the miles flew by.

Was very excited to see this sculpture. It's part of an art trail 'What's In Your DNA?'. I love a good art trail, as per previous posts on the Shaun the Sheep and Paddington ones.

And this one is especially relevant. The sculptures around the city are of giant DNA helixes. It's by Cancer Research UK, to help raise money for the completion of the Francis Crick Institute, a new biomedical research facility in Kings Cross for the fight against cancer (the sculptures will be auctioned off at the end of the trail).

This one is the Mayoral Helix by Cllr Robert Davis MBE DL, inspired by the Mayoral ceremonial dress, and it's outside Number 10.

So, although Cancer Research UK isn't one of the charities 100 Days is raising money for - in the fight against cancer, we all stand together! Everything that raises awareness and money for the fight is basically one big team in my mind.

So, I'm going to visit these team mates over the next few days....and am planning runs around the city to visit them all......

Stay cool guys!
